Beetle kills 80,000 oak trees throughout county

SAN DIEGO - A species of beetle blamed for killing tens of thousands of oak trees in Southern California -- primarily San Diego County -- appears to be spreading through firewood, which means controlling the movement of wood may be the key to containing the pest, UC Riverside researchers said Saturday.
